New BFB Author Releases ELITE PREP WRESTLERS - A WRESTLING STORY

"ELITE PREP WRESTLERS - A WRESTLING STORY"

Rray Coca, a long-time Grand Junction resident and sports hero has poignantly brought to life his amazing experience on the pages of his newly released book, Elite U.S. Dream Team – A Wrestling Story. One can only wonder if it was chance or destiny that brought two men together in another part of the world at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. The casual meeting of Tom Lumly, a wealthy businessman and sports enthusiast from the United States, and Ichiro Hatta, a sports official from Japan, set a course that would change the sport of wrestling forever. Even more unlikely in this strange alignment was a talented high school wrestling team from Grand Junction that would play a major role in this groundbreaking event.

For anyone who believes the impossible can happen—that dreams can come true, this story will reach out and grip your heart and senses. It recounts the arduous struggle and numerous obstacles that had to be overcome in order to plan and initiate the first international exchange program for high school wrestlers. The occurrence not only etched a place in wrestling history, but opened the door of opportunity for an amazing group of young men from Colorado and Oklahoma. Ray Coca overcame poverty and discrimination to earn a place on the U.S. team. It will make you laugh and bring a tear to your eye as you follow small-town youths who pour out every ounce of strength and stamina as they enter a world of experiences beyond their wildest dreams. The significance of this amazing sporting event is punctuated by the fact it took place only a few years after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Two completely different cultures came together in the innocence of youth and learned the meaning of honor and championship. Ray took the lessons he learned and passed them forward through his many years of community involvement and working with young people.

These can lift us to great heights, but just as abruptly, plunge us into the blackest depths. Mike Finton

"The Savior's Guardian"

Mike Finton – The Savior’s Guardian
Just Released!

Mike started his writing career essentially when he got his first job. His technical writing skills served him well throughout his 38 year career. When he decided to follow the urge to write Christian themed novels, he assumed it would be a natural transition. Once he attended his first conference of the Christian Writers Guild 6 years ago, he discovered he still had a lot to learn. He put his first novel aside and spent the next two and a half years in the Guild’s Apprenticeship Course. Once he received his certificate of completion, he completely rewrote The Savior’s Guardian.
Besides the Bible, other Christian works have greatly influenced Mike in his writing and in his personal life. Two in particular are John Eldredge’s Wild at Heart and John Blackaby’s Experiencing God. These books opened him to the reality that all men are hurting while pretending to have their act together, and strengthened his belief that God wants to have a personal relationship with people. As a result, Mike made changes in his own life and has become actively involved in life-changing programs in his own church. He hopes his own stories will touch others as they experience the life of Jesus through the eyes and ears of his characters.
